Printable 8 team bracket

Free printable 8 team bracket with standard seeding (1 v 8, 4 v 5, 2 v 7, 3 v 6): quarterfinals, semifinals, final and a champion box, with lines for names and scores.

How to fill in an 8 team bracket

Write the teams on lines 1 to 8 in seed order, best team first. The quarterfinals are 1 vs 8, 4 vs 5, 2 vs 7 and 3 vs 6. This is the standard seeding: seeds 1 and 2 can only meet in the final, and the top four seeds not before the semifinals.
An 8 team bracket takes 3 rounds and 8 − 1 = 7 games: 4 quarterfinals, 2 semifinals and the final. Games are numbered 1 to 7; write each score in the small box next to the name and move the winner along the line.

Fewer than 8 teams: byes

With 5, 6 or 7 teams use this bracket and leave the lowest seeds empty: those lines are byes, so the top seeds skip the first round. 7 teams give seed 1 a bye (6 games), 6 teams give seeds 1 and 2 a bye (5 games), and 5 teams give seeds 1–3 a bye (4 games).

Frequently asked questions

How many games are in an 8 team bracket?

7 games in 3 rounds: every game knocks out one team, and 7 teams have to go out. Double elimination with 8 teams plays 14 games, or 15 with a grand-final reset.

What are the matchups in an 8 team bracket?

1 vs 8, 4 vs 5, 2 vs 7 and 3 vs 6 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals the winner of 1 vs 8 meets the winner of 4 vs 5, and the winner of 2 vs 7 meets the winner of 3 vs 6.

How many byes does a 6 team bracket need?

2. Six teams use the 8 team bracket, so 8 − 6 = 2 byes go to seeds 1 and 2. Round 1 then has 2 games, 4 vs 5 and 3 vs 6, and the whole bracket plays 5 games.
