How to fill in a 16 team bracket
Write the teams on lines 1 to 16 in seed order. The round of 16 is 1 vs 16, 8 vs 9, 4 vs 13, 5 vs 12, 2 vs 15, 7 vs 10, 3 vs 14 and 6 vs 11: in every game the two seeds add up to 17, and the top two seeds are in opposite halves.
A 16 team bracket takes 4 rounds and 15 games (8 + 4 + 2 + 1). Games are numbered 1 to 15, so with several courts you can send game 9 to court 1 and game 10 to court 2 as soon as their teams are ready.
Fewer than 16 teams: byes
With 9 to 15 teams use this bracket and leave the lowest seeds empty: those lines are byes for the top seeds. 12 teams give seeds 1–4 a bye and play 11 games; 10 teams give seeds 1–6 a bye and play 9 games. The bracket chart lists every count from 3 to 32.
